WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump on Friday praised the family of West Virginia National Guardsman Andrew Wolfe, who was critically injured during last week’s attack in Washington D.C., saying he met with them in the Oval Office and calling them “fantastic American Patriots.”

In a message posted Friday evening on Truth Social, Trump wrote:

“The great family of Andrew Wolfe — Our wonderful National Guardsman who was badly injured protecting the Capital of the United States of America. He is in the process of healing. His parents, brother, and all of his friends are praying. I just met them in the Oval Office — They are fantastic American Patriots!”

Wolfe, 24, of Martinsburg, was one of two West Virginia National Guard soldiers shot during the incident. As of earlier this week, he had shown signs of improvement, according to state officials.

On Tuesday, West Virginia Gov. Patrick Morrisey said Wolfe remains in critical but stable condition and that doctors and his family are “optimistic” about his progress. Morrisey said medical teams are continuing intensive treatment as Wolfe’s condition is closely monitored.
