The West Virginia Office of Miners’ Health, Safety, and Training responded to the scene and is conducting a full investigation, according to the governor’s office. Morrisey said the agency “responded immediately.”

The governor also highlighted the work performed by coal miners across the state, calling it difficult and demanding labor that supports families and communities.

Morrisey asked residents to keep those affected by the death in their thoughts and prayers in the days ahead.
