ST. PAUL, MN — Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz is expected to announce Monday that he will not seek reelection in 2026, according to a political insider familiar with the discussions.

The governor’s office said Sunday afternoon that Walz will hold a news conference at 11 a.m. Monday to address reporters and discuss current developments. No details were provided about the purpose of the appearance.

Later Sunday, political analyst Blois Olson reported that Walz plans to make a decision public about his political future and is likely to withdraw from the 2026 governor’s race. Olson also reported that Walz met earlier in the day with U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota to discuss the matter.
